  • The Upper Rhine is one of the major distribution areas of the Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus) in Baden-Württemberg. It occurs all over the area, but is nowhere abundant. The litte “water dragon” lives e.g. in a small oxbow lake in the Gewann Spich close to Steinmauern. Read more
  • The Yellow-bellied Toad (Bombina variegata) lays ist eggs into small and occasionally dry water bodies, e.g. into water-logged tractor trails, puddles and small ditches in the floodplain.
