When foraging, the Greater Mouse-Eared Bat (Myotis myotis) flies through the forest like a “hedgehopper” only half a meter above ground. Opposed to Bechstein’s bat the species roosts in buildings. The female mostly use nursery roosts in spacious roof trusses of larger buildings in groups of up to 100 individuals. Such a colony presently exists near Rheinstette-Silberstreifen. From there it is easy for the bats to forage in the forests of the project area in a distance of a few kilometres. Read more
